From Small Capital to Sweet Success! Meet Ma’am Liza Gomez of Tacurong City, a proud beneficiary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development - Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Region XII. With only ₱5,000 capital from the Livelihood Assistance Grant of SLP, Ma’am Liza started her humble kakanin (Filipino rice delicacies) business. Through hard work, determination, and perseverance, her small venture gradually grew into a thriving livelihood. Today, her delicious kakanin delicacies are supplied not only in the Tacurong City Public Market but also in nearby municipalities. Because of her dedication to making her business sustainable, Ma’am Liza actively searched for markets and created jobs and livelihood opportunities for her friends and relatives, who now serve as distributors and retailers of her products. Her success story did not stop there. From a small home-based business, she now owns complete equipment for kakanin production, allowing her to expand and meet the growing demand for her products. Because of her passion to uplift her family from poverty and help others through livelihood, Ma’am Liza was recognized and awarded Best in Microenterprise Development – Individual Category by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, receiving recognition from the LGU of Tacurong, DSWD Field Office XII, and even at the DSWD Central Office. Her journey proves that with determination, opportunity, and support, small beginnings can lead to big success.
